“With Auracell, we didn’t need to create any new tooling. And the longevity of the scent was far superior to the other scented plastics we tried.”

Scented children’s jewelry a holiday hit

The Company: MZ Berger & Company – Long Island City, NY

The Opportunity: MZ Berger & Company has long smelled potential in scented products. But until recently, the company hadn’t found a viable way to pursue the opportunity.

“We’ve worked with other scented plastics before, but have been very disappointed by their quality,” explained Cindy Ferraro, executive vice president of merchandising and product development. “We needed a material that was durable and could also retain its scent for a long period of time.”

The Solution: While working on a new line of scented children’s jewelry featuring popular fictional characters, MZ Berger discovered Auracell®, a scented biopolymer from Rotuba.

Derived from sustainable resources, Auracell’s base is a material that’s ideally suited to carrying scent. It also possesses extraordinary physical properties such as tough impact strength, superior clarity and high surface gloss.

“With Auracell, we didn’t need to create any new tooling,” said Ferraro. “And the longevity of the scent was far superior to the other scented plastics we had tried.”

The Results: The licensed-jewelry lines made their retail debut in November 2008—just in time for the holiday season.

“We think these jewelry lines are great and we’re very pleased with the results,” said Ferraro.”
